How to apply for the PGD Assistance Program
- Couples complete the APPLICATION FORM. All required supporting documentation must be submitted with the application.
- The couple's healthcare professional familiar with their genetic history (for example, a clinical geneticist, genetic counsellor, IVF specialist, etc.) completes the 'healthcare professional support letter' to accompany the couple's application.
- The independent PGD Assistance Selection Committee meets throughout the year to select couples based on the submitted application.
- The couple and the supporting healthcare professional will be advised of the outcome of the application.
Subsidised treatment
Qualifying couples gain access to PGD treatment for a maximum of two stimulated PGD treatment cycles and, if required, a further two additional cycles to use any tested but frozen, stored embryos. The treatment must be provided within the 12 month treatment period (January to December of the relevant calendar year).
The couple will not be eligible for any further subsidised treatment once the 12 month treatment period ends or if a live birth outcome is achieved (whichever occurs first).
The subsidy is facilitated by way of loan agreement, whereby applicable Medicare rebates are applied to satisfy in full, the loan amount and a gift from the PGD Assistance Program of the out of pocket amount.
*Please note, as specified below, there are some per cycle costs that are not covered by the Program including pre diagnostic ultrasounds and some non PBS medications.
