Culture Media Development
Genea has developed and continues to improve its range of well researched culture media for the production of higher quality better implanting embryos.
The Genea media suite has been specially developed to complement our low oxygen and use of MINCS (Cook Group) or Mini incubators that maintain an optimal temperature and oxygen level for the embryo to develop. The suite also is designed to take holistic approach from oocyte pickup and sperm collection to freezing / vitrification.
The first generation of the Genea culture media suite was developed in house and the resultant product dramatically increased pregnancy rates following IVF. The embryo media suite is licensed to Cook Australia and, through them, to the US parent company; Cook Group Inc. (Bloomington, Indiana) and is FDA approved. The Genea Media suite commands a significant share of the world wide IVF culture media market. The media suite is sold in over 50 countries and used in over 600 clinics worldwide. The Genea media suite has a market penetration between 30-40% in Australia, Japan, Israel and Scandinavia just to name a few.
The second generation media suite was released on to the international market by Cook Australia in 2007 - 2008. This second generation medium suite contains a number of modifications that aim to reduce oxidative stress, enhance metabolism and reduce the break-down of amino acids. These changes in formulation have resulted in an increased development rate (especially to the 8 cell stage), increased pregnancy rates and increased shelf-life of the suite. Development of the third generation of the Genea media suite is underway, aiming to produce even higher quality embryos for implantation.
In testing this new formulation we undertook a new method of total media testing which encompassed: growth, development, genetic analysis, epigenetic analysis and biochemical analysis.
