18 May 2020 SYDNEY: South Coast residents struggling to conceive will now have access to Genea’s state of the art purpose-built IVF facility within Wollongong Day Surgery.
Genea, who has been helping Illawarra couples create families for over 20 years, has just launched
Genea Elements IVF, with cycle costs from $2,360 out-of-pocket.
“Genea has championed equitable access to responsible, world leading fertility care which provides patients with the best possible chance of successfully completing their family in as few cycles as possible,” Kathleen Waite, General Manager of Fertility said.
She added “we are excited to announce the opening of this brand-new clinic in the highly regarded Wollongong Day Surgery and welcome our patients to this new clinic.”
The new clinic offers patients access to Genea's world leading lab technology for which they are most renowned. All embryos will be grown in the Geri incubation system which has seen a 24.3% increase in the number of pregnancies when compared to the traditional incubator and culture medium system

Associate Professor Lionel Reyftmann says access to Geri presents an additional financial benefit to patients, “the uninterrupted culture system results in more high-grade embryos per cycle. On average, patients have 26.9% more embryos which can be transferred or frozen for future use
**. The more viable embryos a patient has, the more likely they are to create their whole family from a single stimulated egg collection cycle.”
Grow by Genea will also be offered to patients at no additional charge. Grow is a revolutionary app that allows patients to access photos and time lapse videos of the embryos developing in the lab from their mobile devices.
IVF patients Alicia and Matthew welcome the news, “our decision to have a baby meant we wanted access to the best care and labs to boost our chance of a family, but we had financial limitations, there was only so much we could spend on the IVF process,” Alicia said.
"We were also very conscious that if treatment was successful, we would need to save much needed funds for when a baby arrives.”
Matthew added, “we still have one embryo in the freezer at Genea so we only need to return for a frozen embryo transfer, without the expense and emotional roller coaster that comes with a stimulated cycle. Everyone should be able to get the best help if they're experiencing infertility, it’s wonderful that Genea is increasing access to all their technology and care."
Genea’s treating doctors are
Associate Professor Lionel Reyftmann and
Dr Simon Winder, both experienced and empathetic fertility specialists dedicated to their patients’ successful treatment.
