Carrier screening for recessive and X-linked conditions before pregnancy is a recommendation of both the RACGP and RANZCOG.  However, the counselling required before testing - and handling of results - can challenge even the most experienced GP.  There is enormous scope for adverse medicolegal consequences of mishandling this important part of pre-pregnancy care. This seminar aims to provide a sound basis to help GPs master reproductive carrier screening for their patients.  Professor Steve Robson is the first obstetrician appointed to the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator, an NHMRC Principal Committee member, and part of Mackenzie's Mission.
