Biography

Dr Joo P. Teoh provides personalised care through a conscientious attention to detail before, during and after seeing each patient. By applying the knowledge and skills gained through doctoral level research and highly sought-after subspecialist training in the United Kingdom, Joo supports his patients throughout their fertility assessment and treatment as well as through pregnancy and delivery. He is committed to ensuring patients are not rushed or feel like they are on a conveyer belt. It’s important to Joo that his patients feel comfortable to ask any questions they may have about their diagnosis or treatment options.

Experience & Qualifications

Joo has extensive list of qualifications with practical experience both here in Australia and in the United Kingdom. He has experience as a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the United Kingdom and is a UK Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Fertility.

After studying Medical Sciences at the International Medical University in Malaysia, Joo went on to achieve concurrent Bachelors of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics at The Queen’s University of Belfast in 2002. He gained his MRCOG UK Part 1 within six months of finishing his medical degree and in 2007 he completed a Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning (RCOG UK). He received full Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, London in 2008 together with Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI). In 2013 he undertook advanced training in gynaecology surgery and laparoscopy (RCOG UK) and in 2015 he joined the UK Specialist register as a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Fertility.

In 2016, Joo became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG).

Alongside this study, Joo achieved significant international research qualifications, namely a Doctor of Medicine by Research (MD, University of Glasgow) in 2014 for Doctoral Research in Reproductive Immunology and a Master of Science in Clinical Trials (University of London in 2011.

Joo joined Genea Hollywood as a Fertility Specialist in early 2019.

Joo performs laparoscopic surgery for fertility and gynaecology patients and for male subfertility, he performs microsurgical sperm retrieval using a surgical microscope. Joo also has a special interest in looking after and delivering obstetrics patients, especially women who have conceived through assisted reproductive treatment. Alongside his busy private practice, Joo is dedicated to looking after public patients and teaching junior doctors in WA’s tertiary women’s hospital, King Edward Memorial where he works as a specialist consultant. Joo relocated his family to Perth in early 2015.
