Biography

Dr Kate McIlwaine brings a fresh and compassionate approach to managing patients with fertility issues in a supportive environment. She integrates evidence-based medicine with patient-centred medical and lifestyle management to achieve the best possible fertility outcomes for her patients. Kate has extensive training and experience in treating women with endometriosis and appreciates the particular challenges that this disease can pose to fertility. She strives to provide personalised, care and takes the time to explain the various treatment options to her patients so they feel empowered throughout their fertility journey.

Experience & Qualifications

Dr Kate McIlwaine graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours from Monash University in 1999. She subsequently undertook her Obstetrics & Gynaecology training through Monash Medical Centre and Box Hill Hospital and was awarded the Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the RANZCOG Clinical Membership Examination. Kate then went on to complete an Advanced Laparoscopy Fellowship at the Mercy Hospital for Women in 2009 and completed her Master in Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2018.

Dr Kate McIlwaine is a Consultant Gynaecologist on the Endosurgery Unit at the Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg. She is actively involved in teaching specialist trainees, junior doctors and medical students from Melbourne University. She is a Visiting Medical Officer at Warringal Private Hospital, Epworth Eastern, Mitcham Private Hospital and St Vincent's Private Hospital. Kate has a Private Gynaecology Practice at Eastern Gynaecology in Mitcham.

Kate is a member of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society (AGES) and has presented research papers both nationally and internationally at Gynaecology conferences.

Kate has expertise in a broad range of fertility issues particularly endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fertility preservation as well as general aspects of female and male factor infertility.

Kate takes a holistic patient-centred approach to the management of infertility. Her management strategies may include lifestyle advice, ovulation induction, minimally invasive surgery to treat endometriosis or to correct uterine abnormalities. Kate is proud to partner with Genea to offer patients access to world leading IVF, ICSI or genetic screening of embryos (PGS or PGD).

Beyond her professional pursuits, Kate has a husband and two school-aged children and enjoys an active lifestyle and travelling.
