12 August 2024: Give your patients reassurance and support with Genea's bulk-billed ovulation tracking
In the realm of reproductive health, GPs play a pivotal role in recognising and addressing potential fertility challenges. When faced with women exhibiting irregular menstrual cycles or unexplained infertility despite persistent attempts to conceive, GPs may want to consider precise ovulation tracking as a first step.
Charting and monitoring ovulation can be a complex process, and while it can be manageable for individuals or couples to do on their own, experts have access to more advanced tools and technologies for accurately monitoring ovulation. Utilising ovulation tracking through a fertility service can also serve as an initial step toward unravelling potential conception-related challenges, before considering a referral to a Fertility Specialist.
Genea’s ovulation tracking service empowers women aspiring to start a family, providing comprehensive assistance to take control of their fertility journey and realise their goal of conceiving sooner. This service, where suitable, can help GPs reduce over-referring to Fertility Specialists in the first instance. If fertility issues are identified through ovulation tracking, women or couples can be referred to a Genea fertility expert to develop tailored treatment plans to address them.
Genea’s ovulation tracking service resulted in pregnancy rates of 24.2% for females under 38 years old, and 19% for those aged 38 and over between 2022 and 2023*. When comparing this to the average monthly chance of natural conception rate of 20% for females younger than 30, it demonstrates the value in utilising ovulation tracking as an initial step.
This personalised service is backed by Genea’s Fertility Concierge program, along with dedicated nursing support. Experienced nurses offer valuable insights into ovulation and optimal conception timing but also serve as reliable sources of support, ready to address any questions or concerns women may have along the way. Dealing with fertility issues can be emotionally challenging and the team at Genea understands the unique emotional needs of individuals and couples facing fertility struggles.
Genea offers bulk-billed ovulation tracking for three initial cycles
Genea bulk bills the first three cycles, which means no out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare-eligible patients when blood tests are conducted at a Genea monitoring centre in Australia. Women outside metro areas or in regional communities are also offered options to access the service.
Easy online referrals through Genea
GPs can download and complete the Genea referral pack online:
Alternatively, GPs can also complete the referral form by giving us a call at 1300 361 795.
Once a referral is in place, patients then call or email a Genea nurse when they are between day 1-3 of their period. The nurse will then let them know when to come in for a blood test and will be on hand for support for their three ovulation cycles, guiding them through the process and answering any questions along the way.
Ovulation reports sent to your practice
GPs will receive patients’ ovulation report which will contain several key pieces of information that provide insights into their hormonal status and ovulation cycle – helping GPs assess and manage fertility-related issues.
Many individuals can experience emotions such as anxiety and hope when trying to conceive and through each ovulation cycle, especially if previous attempts to conceive have been unsuccessful. When tracking ovulation independently or via self-testing, individuals may lack the support and guidance of healthcare professionals who can provide reassurance, answer questions, and offer emotional support throughout the process.
By offering information and support through Genea’s ovulation tracking service, GPs can help alleviate some of the anxiety associated with the conception process, empowering patients with knowledge and tools to enhance their fertility journey.
