Biography

Dr Samantha Mooney is a highly skilled gynaecologist and obstetrician, with specialist training in minimally invasive gynaecology and infertility. She brings compassion and expertise to her fertility consultations, ensuring each patient (and their partner) feels supported and listened to. Dr Mooney believes in an evidence-based approach, but alongside this recognises that each patient is unique.

Dr Mooney’s approach to treatment is one of inclusivity, ensuring that she can support any patient wishing to start a family irrespective of family construct, whether it is solo parent by choice or patients from the LGBTIQA+ community wanting inclusive, compassionate care based on their personal needs.

Her research portfolio in endometriosis enables a deep understanding of the challenges of this disease and fertility. Dr Mooney will guide you through your treatment options and dedicate her time and expertise throughout your fertility journey.

Dr Mooney graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with first class honours at the University of NSW in 2010 and was awarded the prize for the best performing candidate in Women’s Health. She completed training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in metropolitan and regional Victoria, including rotations in the maternal-foetal medicine units at Mercy Hospital and Western Health.

Dr Mooney achieved her Masters of Reproductive Medicine (UNSW) in 2014. She then completed a two-year Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society AGES fellowship from 2018 to 2019, resulting in accreditation as an advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgeon. She was awarded the AGES/Hologic Travelling Fellowship for Hysteroscopic Surgery in 2020, and recently travelled to the Netherlands to observe their work in hysteroscopic treatment of intrauterine adhesions, a condition related to infertility and obstetric complications.

Dr Mooney is a Senior Clinical Researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne with interests in endometriosis, persistent pelvic pain, and infertility. She recently presented some of her work at the 2023 World Congress for Endometriosis in Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr Mooney is also Acting Director at Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre at Epworth.

Outside of work Dr Mooney is mum to two young and spirited kids, and fancies herself as a talented Duplo engineer and Paw Patrol aficionado. She and her husband enjoy weekend adventures in the outdoors, and are often seen exploring Melbourne’s surrounds, with the kids in a Dutch cargo bike. The family dog, Pinot (Noir), also deserves a mention, providing infinite furry cuddles after the work day is done.
