Biography
Dr Simon Nothman is a Sydney fertility specialist caring for individuals and couples with both general and complex fertility concerns. His areas of particular interest include IVF and ICSI, male infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, fertility preservation, PMOS (previously known as PCOS), preimplantation genetic testing and donor-conception pathways.
After more than a decade training and working in reproductive medicine in Israel, Simon returned home to Sydney, bringing together extensive clinical experience, exposure to advanced reproductive technologies, and a highly individualised approach to care.
Simon believes patients should understand not only what is being recommended, but why. He develops each treatment plan around the patient’s diagnosis, priorities, values and timeline, while explaining the available options and the evidence behind them.
Simon is also a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

Approach to care
Fertility care can quickly become medically complex and emotionally demanding. Simon’s aim is to make it clearer, more personal and more manageable.
He takes time to understand the person behind the medical history and test results. This includes their reproductive goals, previous experiences, relationships, work and family circumstances, and the practical realities that may affect treatment.
Patients are encouraged to ask questions and participate actively in decisions. Simon explains what is known, where uncertainty remains, which options are available and why a particular approach may—or may not—be appropriate.
For couples, assessment generally considers both partners from the outset, recognising that male and female factors should be investigated in parallel. Lifestyle, nutrition, sleep and general health are also considered where relevant, but are approached practically and without suggesting that patients are responsible for their fertility difficulties.
Simon places particular importance on continuity of care and remaining involved as patients move through investigation and treatment.
“Good fertility care begins with understanding the person behind the results. I want my patients to know what we are doing, why we are doing it and how the plan reflects their diagnosis, priorities and timeline. My aim is to make fertility care clearer, more personal and more manageable.” - Dr Simon Nothman

Medical education
Teaching patients and health professionals has been an important part of Simon’s career.
While working in Israel, he served as Director of Women’s Health Education at the Technion American Medical School, teaching medical students, obstetrics and gynaecology trainees and visiting international doctors. He continues to teach GPs, nurses, midwives and doctors about fertility assessment and contemporary reproductive medicine.
This education-first approach is also central to his consultations: patients are encouraged to ask questions, understand their options and feel involved in the decisions being made about their care.
Research
Simon has published research in peer-reviewed journals including Fertility and Sterility, Human Reproduction and the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics.
His research has examined IVF treatment scheduling, frozen embryo transfer protocols, hormone levels and live birth outcomes, oocyte retrieval timing, sperm acquisition and medical education.
His ongoing engagement with research supports a careful, evidence-informed approach to new technologies, investigations and fertility treatment options.
