World IVF Day - Genea celebrates 38 years of pioneering innovations
From our visionary founder Prof Jansen in 1986 to our talented Genea team today, innovation is in our DNA. On World IVF Day, we reflect on 38 years of pioneering reproductive medicine, impacting millions globally, and continually advancing fertility treatments.
From our visionary founder Prof Jansen when he established Sydney IVF back in 1986 through to the amazingly talented team that work at Genea today, innovation and progress has always been in our DNA.
World IVF Day, also known as World Embryologist Day, is a great opportunity for our team to stop and reflect on four decades of pioneering innovations and groundbreaking contributions that have played a vital role in advancing reproductive medicine.
Genea’s patients in Australia as well as millions of people across the globe have experienced the impact of these life changing technologies, in fact in many cases, clinics worldwide have followed our lead which has helped shape IVF and infertility treatment today.
We’ve shared some of them below:
- Genea pioneered the creation of the first benchtop incubator, setting new standards in embryo cultivation, improving embryo quality when IVF was in its infancy.
- Genea was the first to adopt Day 5 embryo transfer as a standard protocol, a breakthrough that nearly doubled success rates overnight and became a new benchmark in the industry globally.
- Genea introduced the first routine Day 5 embryo biopsy for pre-implantation genetic testing. This advancement improved success rates and established Genea as a leader in improving patient outcomes and reducing the number of embryo transfers needed to achieve a pregnancy.
- Genea developed the first individual chamber time lapse incubator, known as Geriâ„¢, which is exclusive to Genea patients in Australia and has been sold globally, providing enhanced embryo monitoring and improved both embryo quality and success rates.
- Genea’s innovative continuous culture media which further enhanced the results of time-lapse incubators, improving embryo quality and success rates significantly.
- Genea established Australia’s first dedicated egg freezing clinic, offering women enhanced reproductive options and greater control over their family planning.
- Genea launched the world-first embryo viewing app, Grow by Geneaâ„¢ , allowing patients to view and track their embryos while they develop in the lab, enhancing transparency and engagement in the IVF process.
- Genea’s advanced technologies, including benchtop incubators, culture media, and catheters, have been utilised in 60 countries across 600 clinics, demonstrating their commitment to improving reproductive outcomes worldwide.
These milestones over the last 38 years reflect Genea's unrelenting commitment to advancing reproductive medicine and improving the chance of success for individuals and couples undergoing fertility treatments.
So, it probably goes without saying that this World IVF Day, we’ll be doing the same thing we love doing everyday - making babies.
