Biography

Dr Ying Li is one of a small number of fertility specialists in Australia and New Zealand who holds the Certificate of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI), the highest subspecialty qualification in fertility medicine available in this region. He consults at Genea Sydney CBD and Genea Sydney South, bringing extensive expertise in complex fertility care, reproductive surgery, male infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss.

Experience and qualifications

Dr Li graduated from the University of New South Wales with a medical degree (BSc Med, MBBS) in 2006. He trained as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital before completing an advanced fellowship in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery and a dedicated three-year subspecialty fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI). In addition, Dr Li has trained with Cornell University and New York Presbyterian Hospital in male reconstructive surgery.

He holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and the Certificate of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI). The CREI requires three years of advanced specialist training beyond FRANZCOG and is the highest credential available in fertility medicine in Australia and New Zealand. He also holds a Master of Business Administration.

Dr Li is the Medical Director of the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, leading the unit responsible for advanced reproductive and endocrine care. He is also the Director of Subspecialty REI Training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the clinical lead in menopause for Sydney Local Health District and a Subspecialty Examiner in REI for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).

He consults with operating rights at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Waratah Private Hospital, Mater Hospital, and Hurstville Private Hospital. He is an invited faculty member at the Australasian CREI and fertility education workshops and is a regular invited speaker at international scientific congresses. He also collaborates with the Institute of Academic Surgery at the University of Sydney to deliver surgical training. 

Dr Li regularly contributes to peer-reviewed publications across fertility, reproductive surgery, and reproductive endocrinology, including co-authorship of the first Australasian clinical management guidelines for recurrent pregnancy loss (2024).

Research

Dr Li is a published researcher with a particular focus on recurrent pregnancy loss. He is one of the lead authors of the first Australasian clinical management guidelines for recurrent pregnancy loss, published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (2024). He has also contributed an overview of recurrent pregnancy loss to O&G Magazine (2025) and has published on reproductive surgery, uterus transplantation, male infertility, and endometriosis. Dr Li is one of the authors of the first Australasian clinical guidelines in the use of adjuvant therapy in ovarian stimulation in IVF.
