15 August 2025: Fertility rewritten: how modern science and women are changing the narrative | Women's Agenda

OverviewSpecialist overview
For generations, fertility challenges have been navigated in silence. But that is changing. As more people share their experiences openly, conversations around infertility, IVF, and the path to parenthood are becoming less isolating and more empowering.

Jess Reed is one of those people. At 34, after years of deliberately waiting until she and her husband felt ready to start a family, Jess discovered her AMH levels were very low, meaning her egg reserve was significantly diminished. Referred to Genea fertility specialist Dr Genia Rozen, Jess found not just a treatment plan but a genuine partnership. Together they discussed her goals, her health, and the honest realities of her situation. That support carried her through a weight loss journey of 45 kilograms and several rounds of IVF, including some deeply difficult setbacks along the way.

"The Genea team was just on your side," Jess says. "It just felt like they were in my corner."

Jess became pregnant at 36 and is now mum to baby girl Evangeline, with frozen eggs and embryos in storage for when she is ready to try for a second child.

Her story sits alongside broader reflections from Dr Rozen on four decades of innovation in reproductive science. From the development of continuous culture media and Day 5 embryo transfer, to vitrification, ICSI, and Genea's own Geri incubator (which has delivered a 12% increase in live births compared to traditional systems), the advancements transforming fertility treatment are significant. Today, one in every 16 babies born in Australia is born through IVF.
