Complimentary professional counselling
As part of your fertility treatment with donor eggs, you will have at least two counselling sessions for yourself and your partner (if in a couple) before proceeding with using donor eggs. If your donor is known to you, these sessions may require both of you to be present.
All our counsellors are mental health professionals and have specific experience in helping individuals and couples navigate the complexities of fertility treatments, including the emotional ups and downs that come with this journey. Your counsellor is available for additional sessions if you feel you need them.
A dedicated donor coordinator
Your donor coordinator is your main point of contact throughout your donor selection journey. In addition to providing you with overall guidance through the process, your coordinator can also offer advice around selecting an egg donor, direct you to additional support resources, and help you organise your appointments at the Genea clinic.
Resources to support your emotional wellbeing
When embarking on such a significant journey as building your family with the use of donor eggs, it’s important to surround yourself with the right day-to-day support. Though family and friends may be well-intentioned, it can be difficult for someone who hasn’t had lived experience to fully understand all the complex emotions you are likely to be going through.
A couple of the great support resources we recommend include:
Rainbow Families - an Australian national organisation supporting LGBTQ+ parents and their children.
Paths to Parent Hub - a UK-based resource with webinars, live chats, courses, podcasts, and support groups for parents or parents-to-be of donor-conceived children.
FAQs
What happens after you find your egg donor
Once you've selected your egg donor and completed all legal requirements, the focus shifts to your fertility treatment and the path to pregnancy.
Fertility treatment with donor eggs involves creating an embryo through the in vitro fertilisation (IVF) process. The process can look slightly different depending on whether you are using fresh or frozen eggs, and whether you are planning to carry the pregnancy yourself or are using a surrogate. The synchronisation and treatment process is described above.
Next Steps Include:
- Treatment planning and cycle coordination
- Embryo transfer procedures
- Pregnancy monitoring and support
- Planning for potential future siblings
