^Day surgery costs
Day surgery theatre and accommodation costs are often covered by private health insurance but if patients have limited or no health fund cover, the procedure costs at a Genea day surgery unit will be up to $1,740 for egg collection, $1,030 for embryo transfer or $450 for an IUI (non-claimable). Please note that there may be additional charges for anaesthetist fees if required. Prices quoted are only guaranteed at Genea Day Surgeries. Please note these prices are a guide only, and subject to change. Please contact the clinic-associated day surgery unit to obtain prices.
Many of Genea’s procedures are done under local anaesthetic, which is included in the cycle costs above. However, when a general anaesthetic is required, it will incur an additional cost. Not all clinics allow patients to stay awake during the procedures but we find many of our patients prefer to be awake. This means patients are able to discuss egg numbers and embryo quality with their doctor and embryologist.
Fertility treatment rebate
Through Genea Fertility, you may be eligible to receive Medicare rebates for select treatments, including your IVF costs in Canberra through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). Most Medicare card holders will be eligible with a referral from your GP (which lasts for 12 months) or Fertility Specialist (which lasts for three months), including your name and your partner's name, if applicable.
Once your out-of-pocket costs for IVF in the ACT exceed the annual threshold, you may be eligible for additional rebates. However there is an annual cap on the Safety Net rebate for IVF, so you should contact Medicare directly to find out if you qualify.
