Rebates
A number of fertility treatments and your consultations may qualify for a Medicare rebate. Before proceeding with your treatment, find out what rebates are available to you.
Introduction
Did you know that a number of fertility treatments qualify for Medicare rebates for eligible Medicare holders through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS)?
To be eligible, you need to have a Medicare card and a referral from your GP (which lasts for 12 months) or Fertility Specialist (which lasts for three months) that includes your name and your partner's name, if applicable.
Beyond standard rebates, Medicare also offers the Safety Net to help cover IVF expenses. This means when out-of-pocket costs exceed the annual threshold, you can get additional rebates on eligible items. However there is an annual cap on the Safety Net rebate for IVF, so you should contact Medicare directly to find out if you qualify.
Rebates
There are a number of rebates you should consider, including:
- NSW Pre-IVF $250 Rebate
This rebate for NSW residents is designed to help you take the first step to understand why you’re not conceiving and it can be used to help cover a range of early testing including AMH test, semen analysis, pelvic ultrasound or ovulation test.
- $2000 IVF Rebate for NSW Residents

Female residents of NSW can now claim the NSW Government’s one-off $2000 Fertility Treatment Rebate to help cover the cost of approved procedures at Genea.
The rebate is part of the government’s 2022/2023 budget and is currently restricted to 12,000 eligible women undergoing fertility treatment at private clinics on a first-in, first served basis.
Eligible treatments and procedures include artificial insemination, in-vitro fertilisation, gamete intrafallopian transfer and any related treatment or procedure that is prescribed by the regulations (ART Act 2007).

Who can access this rebate?
You must be a NSW resident to claim the rebate, however you can have your treatment at Genea’s interstate clinics in Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, or Brisbane.
The rebate is not available to patients for the sole purpose of fertility preservation.
How to access the IVF Rebate?
Patients undergoing treatment must keep all receipts and submit their claim through Service NSW. The rebate form can only be submitted by a female applicant undertaking treatment in a private clinic.
Please book an appointment with a Genea Fertility GP to get started and ensure that, if you require treatment, you won’t miss out on the limited rebate.
