Support throughout your donor selection journey

At Genea Fertility, we understand that selecting a sperm donor involves important emotional and practical considerations. Our comprehensive support system includes professional counselling, ongoing guidance from donor coordinators, and resources to help you navigate this significant decision with confidence.

Complimentary professional counselling

As a valued patient at Genea Fertility, we provide sessions with our fertility counsellors, free of charge during your treatment with us. At least two counselling sessions for yourself and your partner (if in a couple) are required before proceeding with using donor sperm. If your donor is known to you, these sessions may require both of you to be present.

All our counsellors are mental health professionals and have specific experience in helping individuals and couples navigate the complexities of fertility treatments, including the emotional ups and downs that come with this journey.

A dedicated donor coordinator

Your donor coordinator is your main point of contact throughout your donor selection journey. In addition to providing you with overall guidance through the process, your coordinator can also offer advice around selecting a sperm donor, direct you to additional support resources, and help you organise your appointments at the Genea clinic.

Resources to support your emotional wellbeing

When embarking on such a significant journey as building your family with the use of donor sperm, it’s important to surround yourself with the right day-to-day support. Though family and friends may be well-intentioned, it can be difficult for someone who hasn’t had lived experience to fully understand all the complex emotions you are likely to be going through.

A couple of the great support resources we recommend include:
  • Australian Solo Mothers by Choice - a Facebook group dedicated to supporting and advocating for single women who have or who are considering having children with the use of donor sperm.
  • Paths to Parent Hub - a UK-based resource with webinars, live chats, courses, podcasts, and support groups for parents or parents-to-be of donor-conceived children.
