Which treatment pathway is likely right for you?
Ovulation induction
Often tried before IUI or IVF, ovulation induction uses medication to help your ovaries produce and release eggs, followed by timed intercourse or IUI. It's less invasive than IVF and commonly recommended for irregular or absent ovulation, including conditions like PCOS.
Typical cost: Medicare rebates apply to IUI and to OI monitoring, but not to a standalone OI cycle. Medication cost varies, oral tablets are relatively low cost, injectable medications add more. Your Genea team will confirm the total based on your protocol.
IUI (intrauterine insemination)
Often recommended when ovulation tracking or induction alone hasn't led to pregnancy, or when sperm needs support reaching the uterus, without the additional steps IVF involves.
Typical cost: Fee around $2,330, with an approximate Medicare rebate of $617, bringing typical out-of-pocket to around $1,713. Your Genea team will confirm this based on your Medicare eligibility.
IVF (in vitro fertilisation)
Recommended when eggs and sperm need to be fertilised in the laboratory rather than in the body, for reasons ranging from tubal factors and endometriosis to unexplained infertility.
Typical cost: An IVF cycle typically costs between $6,428 and $7,150 out of pocket after Medicare rebates, depending on your state and individual circumstances.

ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection)
Recommended when sperm quality or quantity is a factor, when a previous IVF cycle hasn't resulted in fertilisation, or when sperm needs to be surgically retrieved. A single sperm is injected directly into each egg.
Typical cost: Typically a modest additional fee on top of IVF, since it adds a specialised laboratory step. Your Genea team will confirm the total based on your treatment plan.
Donor sperm treatment
Recommended if donor sperm is part of your path to parenthood, whether you're a solo parent by choice, part of an LGBTQIA+ family, or facing male-factor infertility. The approximate timeframe for accessing donor sperm from a bank is 3 to 4 months in total, once you factor in genetic counselling, any additional genetic screening, and shipping if your donor is sourced from overseas.
Typical cost: Includes the donor sperm purchase alongside your chosen treatment (IUI, IVF or ICSI). Two counselling sessions are required before proceeding. Our donor team can walk you through a complete estimate.
Donor egg treatment
Recommended when your Fertility Specialist advises that donor eggs give you the best chance of success. Includes consultation, fertility testing, donor compensation, the IVF procedure, and embryo freezing and storage.
Typical cost: Varies based on your chosen pathway and treatment requirements. All Medicare-eligible treatments and tests attract the full scheduled rebate. Our donor team can help you understand payment plans and other financial support available to you.
Egg freezing
Recommended if you're preserving fertility for the future, whether by personal choice, rather than starting active treatment now, or for medical reasons (for example, before cancer treatment, or a diagnosed condition affecting fertility). Costs differ depending on which of these applies to you, since elective and medical egg freezing are structured, and priced, differently.
Medical egg freezing: cycle fee around $10,785, with Medicare rebates typically bringing your out-of-pocket to approximately $4,110 to $5,445. A day surgery fee (approx. $1,740) and freezing fee ($1,085) are billed separately, plus ongoing storage at $55 per month. Anaesthetist fees, genetic carrier screening, and specialist fees may apply depending on your treatment.
Elective (social) egg freezing: cycle fee of $4,441.80 (inc. GST), with no Medicare rebate since this isn't medically indicated. A day surgery fee of approximately $1,914 and freezing fee of $1,193.50 are billed separately, plus medications (typically $1,500 to $4,000 per cycle, purchased through a pharmacy, indicative only) and ongoing storage at $55 per month.
We don't cap how many eggs you can store, either way. Your Genea team will confirm your personalised quote once your treatment plan is in place.
Sperm freezing
Recommended if you're preparing for medical treatment that may affect fertility, delaying fatherhood for personal reasons, or planning a vasectomy. As with egg freezing, costs differ depending on whether your circumstances are medical or elective.
Elective sperm freezing: $253 - $508.75 per collection, which includes a semen analysis (partly offset by a Medicare rebate). Storage is $55 per month, processed via direct debit, in every state except WA. In WA, your first 12 months of storage are complimentary, then $370 per year after that.
Medical sperm freezing: if you're freezing sperm under certain medical circumstances, you may be eligible for a discounted fee and a Medicare rebate to minimise your out-of-pocket cost, up to two collections may qualify. Speak with our andrology team to confirm your eligibility and price. In WA, for example, the medical collection fee is $508.75, with an eligible Medicare rebate of $445.60, and your first 12 months of storage complimentary.
